Directed by Otar Iosseliani
A deadpan, picaresque buddy comedy about two old friends through a series of urban adventures, loosely connected by the skull of an executed French aristocrat. Winter Song is a typically irreverent Iosselianian jaunt through a classy Paris apartment block contemplating the past, present and future.

so. so good.
with that sort of pessimism about the absurdity of life and the ugliness of mankind, it somehow manages to digress into play and is so lighthearted in spite of it all that it's really got some heaven.

Feels like a greatest hits collection, on the plus side it means it's really good, but like any artist playing to the crowd, as good as it is it's not quite as good as the truly great ones.
His movies are still so unique though that I'm mostly grateful there is another one.
