this is more like it nziff!

i loved this film, but what really stood out to me was the pacing. it felt like no dialogue and no interactions were wasted; there were no throwaway scenes. everything mattered and everything we learned really came together in the final few scenes, which are legit heartbreaking. great acting - it takes quite a bit to make me sympathise wholly with (objectively what we would consider) quite monstrous people, but i truly did.

Lovely stuff, I really enjoyed this. Really good performances by the three central actors (especially Stewart) and a great script that made for a very believable story.

I particularly enjoyed the photography - it had a dreamy feel that really suited the quiet strangeness of the plot.

BTW does anyone else think the Letterboxd description gives too much away? I think for this film the less you know about it beforehand the better.

I feel this was very underrated in comparison to some of the other Kiwi films that hit last year. Not to undermine some of the great stuff, like The Dark Horse, but I did feel this one was unfairly swept under the rug.

With a slow burn simple narrative and some great performances, Everything We Loved is a great understated thriller.
