'Love in the Time of Civil War' is about Alex, a druggie that prostitutes himself. Set in the snowy waste of Montreal, it's a film about those at the rock bottom of society. It is neither against or for the dangerous lifestyle. You merely watch the day to day lives of these addicts, as though you are watching a nature documentary. The claustrophobic camera-work, should also be applauded, as it really adds to the intensity of the experience.

It is a grueling 2 hours, but I do admire this film greatly. It's a neo-realist film set in the present day, which I have not seen before.
